Why “I just want to be happy” is a lie

When you think about “just wanting to be happy,” how does that make you feeling? I’m guessing horrible. Which is why it’s the worst thing we tell ourselves. It does not motivate you go to do the hard things and life a full life. It just makes you feel stuck and like a victim.

In this week’s episode, you are going to learn why you don’t actually want to feel better and why that’s good news. Only psychopaths never feel bad, but learning to be okay with the hard parts does not mean you are giving up. It means you are doing it right. Listen to learn why.

Knowing what you want out of your career

A good strategy clearly articulates what the end goal is with a few ideas on how to get there. If you are clear on what you are trying to accomplish, it’s easier to pivot and change along the way to figure out how to reach the goal as you learn along the way.

It’s the same with what we want out of our careers, but when we don’t know how, we tend to think it’s not possible. But what if that was all wrong? What if knowing what you wanted helped you make decisions and increased your chances of reaching your goal.

In this week’s episode, you are going to learn how to get clear on what you want out of your career and what to do when you brain shuts it down because it does not know how that’s even possible.

How to commit when you disagree

Disagreeing is easy and something we do all day every day. Don’t commit just to let leadership have any easy excuse to get their way, but commit to keep moving forward quickly. Delivering on the project and failing fast gets you to your goal so much quicker than spending time making sure everyone agrees. There are so many variables to your projects that we’re never going to be 100% aligned.

Learning how to commit when you really don’t agree is easier said than done. But when you do, you can still enjoy your work, help deliver on the project, feel like you are adding value along the way.

In this week’s episode, you will learn how to commit not just at work, but when it comes to your career as well.
